Manuel Fernández received his Ph.D. in Spanish in 2001 from Pennsylvania State University and is currently an Assistant and Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Wisconsin ? Eau Claire. He has published on the work of Leonardo Padura Fuentes and Luisa Valenzuela and is also presently involved in a research project on the the mathematics of indigenous people of the Americas prior to 1492. His most current research is on the music of the Cuban hip hop group Los Aldeanos. His future research will continue to analyze the working out of the Cuban national trauma as represented in literature, film, music and other cultural productions of Cuba and its diaspora.
