Dr. Simei Tong earned her BS in Applied Mathematics from Tong Ji University in Shanghai, China in 1984. In 1993 she decided to come to the U.S. to pursue a master degree in mathematics, intending to return home after completing her MS. However, her American mathematics professors encouraged her to continue her studies at the doctoral level. In 2002 she received her Ph.D. in mathematics from Oklahoma State University, and accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In 2007, she was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. During the past eight years, she has taught thousands of students, published numerous articles in professional journals, and supervised seventeen Faculty/Student collaborative research projects. Several of these projects have been recognized for their excellence with awards at undergraduate research conferences. Currently more than twenty of Simei?s students are continuing their mathematics studies after graduation from UWEC. Many of them are enrolled as doctoral students in some of the most highly competitive graduate schools in the country.
