Cultivating Creativity

This course will explore the concept of creativity, emphasizing collaboration, motivation and openness to new ideas. Students will design and solve creative challenges, sharpening their divergent and convergent creative thinking abilities. In addition, this course will focus on the ability to seek new connections, evaluate ideas as well as communicate them to others.

Meet the Professor

Dr. Hlas is the author of Practical creativity: Language activities and ideas for your language classroom (2019) from Cognella Academic Publishing. In addition, she received the 2005 Emma Marie Birkmaier award for outstanding dissertation work from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and more recently received an ACTFL Research Priority Grant to explore high-leverage teaching practices. In 2014 she was honored to receive the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Excellence in Research Award. Her research interests include second language teacher knowledge, teacher use of technology, and teacher target language use. She regularly publishes work in Foreign Language Annals, the Language Educator, and Hispania.
