Activism, Rhetoric, and the Public Square

This class will examine 21st century activism and the rhetorical strategies incorporated into campaigns for social change. Using an inquiry model, we will explore the public platforms of individual activists and the trajectories of contemporary social movements; we will also investigate the role of digital technologies and social media in shaping awareness around issues. Throughout the class, students will design rhetorically-savvy, multi-platform campaigns for issues and/or organizations with which they have a personal connection or investment.
